When strolling through the town, you should definitely head for the historic market square. It is in the heart of Hallstatt and is undoubtedly the most famous square in the city. Usually there is a dense crowd on the square during the day. During our visit during the pandemic, the pretty square was uncommonly empty, so that we could admire the picturesque buildings in peace.

A little insider tip away from the hustle and bustle are the hiking trails above the town, some of which lead in the footsteps of the former work routes of miners.
